Assessment #2

This was one hellish week at school. We started off with a practical test and ended with one. Yesterday, we were required to make a Sachertorte, which is this chocolate sponge caked wrapped in chocolate ganache and then enrobed in another layer of chocolate glaze. The first time we made ganache in class and we're graded on it, along with marizpan roses and leaves.

The hardest part of the exam was finding a cool enough location so that the chocolate would set. We needed to pipe it as a filling and spread it like frosting, so it needed to be firm, not liquid. Unfortunately for everyone, as soon as the chocolate set in the fridge and we would take it out to use, it would almost immediately revert back to its liquid form.

Chocolate went EVERYWHERE!! It was so hot, everyone was soaked from sweat and someone's hat slipped off their head into their chocolate! Eventually, we finished and everyone got a grade for their melted pile of ooze, taking into account the heat.

Finally the weekend is here! This morning I went to Borough Market again for some sausages, artichoke hearts and a brownie. On the way back, I bought the 4th harry potter book to try to catch up with everyone else. The salesman was very pushy about me buying the next 2, saying that the price wouldn't be that good for long. But, i declined saying I would steal them from my brother when I got home.

As I was just about home, I ran into two classmates who asked me to a movie later. So, I think i'll probably be seeing Wedding Crashers, which I don't know if I really want to see, but I should go anyway, to be social. Tonight I can't decide whether to go to the Tate Modern Museum or to the Globe to see Pericles. I was thinking of the Globe tomorrow to see the Tempest, but I can't decide...and the Tate is open late tonight, which might make it more or less crowded, i don't know. Too many choices. Hmmmm.

So how about Pisa with a day trip to Florence? The train is only E5.10 one way from Pisa to Florence and the hotels are infinitely cheaper in Pisa than in Florence.

I like this plan. I have to just double check Tim's arrival time and to make sure i won't miss something at school, since it technically is over on the 5th.
Will let you know by monday, tuesday latest.

Other idea

Aritz just told me that he going to be in Munich during the first week of August, assembling the beer tents for Oktoberfest (they start really early). What do you think of meeting in munich? I could most definitely get you a free place to crash and then I could show you around. :)
What do you think?

Re: Other idea

The train ride to Munich is E250 per person round trip...hmmmm Kind of expensive for a couple of days. How long do you plan on staying? Just a couple of days or longer? And what dates specifically? Still the 4-6th or longer? I ask because we are trying to make this into a honeymoon of sorts. Our one year anniversary is quickly approaching :) So we would like to take a week or so and do Pisa and it's environs as well as Florence. We absolutely want to see you! Please say you want to come to Pisa, at least for one night!!!

Re: Other idea

Current working plan is to fly to munich night of the 4th, see BK the 5th. Take overnight train on the 5th to Florence to see you all the 6th and then take night flight to london to get tim in the am of the 7th.
Have you checked flights flying to munich? Aritz said that he could get you a place to stay if you wanted to stay longer than me.
I have to be in London on the 7th, to get tim.

tempest commentary

I saw the tempest there in may - it was an interesting adaptation - with only a few people acting out all the parts, and 3 ppl in leather jackets acting as props/fairies. interesting experience. not too hard to follow the story - if you had some idea of it previously.

Re: tempest commentary

Thanks for the review! :)

I think I will probably go see it tomorrow, as I just got back from the Tate and the Frida Kahlo exhibition. Fantastic!!

I'm not sure if i fully appreciated much of the other modern art, though. I guess art is objective; one likes what one likes and that's neither good or bad.

Re: I can't wait...

Miss you too!!

If only there was a convenient way to send cakes in the mail, I'd send ya something good!

I've already started planning this thanksgivings menu and it will definitely include a delicious ooze of some sort. ;) Hope you'll consider coming out again. ;)
